What happens when people buy tickets, because I have heard that many people are turned away, why does this happen?

You can be in the audience of a My Family filming in two ways. Either as a production guest or as a ticket guest. The majority of audience members are 'ticket' guests.
Tickets can be obtained from the BBC's Ticket site for free. However, as the tickets are free many people over order or simply do not use them at all. For this reason, the BBC send out more tickets than there are seats under the assumption that some people will not show - and it should roughly work out that the number of people who turn up will be the number of seats availble. The audience needs to be full to generate enough laughter for the soundtrack!!
However, it is unfortunate that sometimes more people arrive at Pinewood than can be accomodated in the studio. Therefore, entry is on a strictly first-come-first-served basis. Sadly, people sometimes have to be turned away. If you are venturing to Pinewood on BBC tickets and are travelling some distance - it is highly advisable that you arrive early!!!
Also, filming are sometimes cancelled at the last moment due to technical or set problems. However, this is very very rare.
Many people have asked in the past about how you become a production guest - as it has spread among the My-Family-fan-community from regular attendees of filmings that those lucky so-and-so's don't have to queue, are guarenteed a seat and get to hang around 'backstage'. Unfortunatly, productions guests must be personally invited by a member of the cast or crew.

It is a shame for people getting turned away - that's the BBC Tickets website for you. More tickets than seats.
Luckily I have never been to filming (is that a blessing?) - I wouldn't be able to stand hearing 'Sorry - no more people being let it', after driving from Manchester.

I actually can't believe you've never been to a filming. Your the biggest MF fan I know! You are the 'font of all wisdom'....

I never actually thought about going to a filming. I'm more than happy watching it on BBC1 and DVD's - but I kinda regret it though...

I must actually point out, with the prospect of a seventh series that fans hoping to go to Pinewood must be over 16 if they have got their tickets from the BBC website.
